The Gobi Desert covers southern Mongolia and northern china therefore meaning the communities there would live in a suitable place in the desert. Most people living in the Gobi desert are Mongolian however the population of Han Chinese and inner Mongolia have been increasing since the 1950s. The harshness of the desert prevents most forms of livelihood, nomadic cattle herding is the main occupation for Gobi residents. Other residents are lucky enough to create a living as farmers meaning they have a more hospitable area of the desert. The Gobi desert is so cold though, so very few people live there. One square mile of the Gobi houses fewer than three people! To survive Gobi residents stay close to herds of animals, always remain in search of a new water source when the previous locations supply has run out and to make their living even better they have a form of shelter called a felt covered ger or yurt. These places are adapted because it keeps out the hot sun during the day and keeps in warmth during the cold nights. The Gobi desert mines uranium and pollution will and has occurred which has affected the livestock by causing deformities in the young. The Gobi desert is governed and funded by the Mongolian government.
